Favourite Quote / Advice to live by: Several years ago, Wendy required a lengthy, complicated surgery, the anxiety leading up to which she described as “numbing.” She was reminded of how she wanted to approach the situation by the quote “get busy living or get busy dying” from The Shawshank Redemption.

Administrative support service team lead Wendy Glover has a passion for helping and supporting others – from alleviating work from coworkers, to creating positive process change in the workplace, to ensuring the health and safety of her team. After 15 years working at Trail mental health and substance use (MHSU), she was promoted to team lead for the region, where she enjoys the work she does – particularly when she’s able to relieve stress from her colleagues through her organizational skills.

Though she shies away from being the centre of attention, Wendy’s work is highly valued, and she acknowledges that “behind every great leader is someone like me, who can easily sync with them to anticipate what the next steps are.” She is grateful for the opportunity she’s had to get to know and work with amazing people from a wide variety of departments and programs.

Health care is under great scrutiny and I know how hard people are working. Anything that I can take off their plate gives me a sense of accomplishment.

Wendy considers herself both introverted and extroverted depending on the situation – admittedly due to her Gemini astrological sign. On her introvert side, she loves to make things with her hands, mainly crocheting blankets for her family and friends, though she has yet to make one for herself! She is also a cat person, and has frequently homed strays. On her extrovert side, she enjoys spending sun-filled days at Kootenay Lake. Whether boating, hiking, swimming or kayaking, she loves to be surrounded by family and friends.

Wendy takes full advantage of the Kootenay lifestyle, and loves spending time taking the quad up logging roads to pick huckleberries (just enough for a pie or two!) and snowshoeing in the winter with her husband. Says Wendy, “Our first adventure was the loop around the lake at the top of the Salmo/ Creston highway in the dark via moonlight. It was beautiful until I started to think about wolves, to which my husband poo-pooed me, but I insisted we go back to the safety of the cabin for a snack at the three-quarter mark of the loop.”

Family is incredibly important to Wendy. She and her husband have been married for 39 years, with two daughters and a son. Her oldest daughter recently moved to Inuvik, and she can’t wait to visit her there.

Looking to the future, Wendy and her husband are excited to see Bruce Springsteen in concert in Vancouver in November, which she considers a dream come true. She also looks forward to retiring in the not-so-distant future and spending more time with her two-year-old granddaughter Wynne. She plans to travel and camp across Canada, and of course, spend time watching her favourite team the Toronto Blue Jays.
