Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
Interior Health has implemented Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) to enable secure remote access to IH systems when you are outside of the secure IH network.
What is Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)?
Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is used to access Interior Health (IH) systems when you are outside of the secure IH network.
MFA requires three types of identification:
- Something you possess (cell phone)
- Something you know (password or pin)
- Something unique (face ID or fingerprint)
When do I use MFA?
MFA is not required when accessing systems at an IH site or while connected through a virtual private network (VPN) on an IH device.
MFA is required to access modern cloud-based applications, such as MS Teams, M365 and WFM. It is also used to enable secure remote access to IH Anywhere, IH Webmail and i-Site.
If you are accessing any of the above systems remotely, register for MFA today.
How do I use MFA?
Once you have registered, the Microsoft Authenticator application on your personal mobile device will prompt you for approval when accessing IH systems remotely.
Why is IH switching to MFA?
MFA is the modern security standard used across the province and the world, enabling remote access from any device, anywhere, at any time.
