The Student Placement Team facilitates various student opportunities, including preceptorships, observations, fieldwork, virtual learning, or direct patient/client care under the guidance and supervision of practicing employed health professionals. Students associated with a Post-Secondary Institution (PSI) pursuing studies in clinical and non-clinical domains such as nursing, allied health, medicine, midwifery, nurse practitioner, health care aide, medical office assistant, business, computer science, communications, or health administration.
The Student Placement Team serves as the primary contact for all practicum placements involving PSI students within Interior Health (IH). Our placement prioritization is based on geographical location. This placement procedure adheres to the Practice Education Guidelines for BC.
Here’s a summary of the placement prioritization process:
- IH-Sponsored or Funded Students: First priority for placement
- Local PSIs: Requests from institutions within the local geographic region
- Other BC Regions: Placement requests from other regions within British Columbia
- Private PSIs: When all other factors are equal, requests for the same time frame from Public PSIs are usually accepted before Students from Private degree granting, Private training, Aboriginal-Controlled, or Theological PSIs.
- Other Canadian Regions: Requests from PSIs across Canada
- International PSIs: Placement requests from international institutions are prioritized last
This tiered approach helps ensure that placements are efficiently managed and receive the support they need. For inquiries, please feel free to contact the Student Placement Team at studentplacement@interiorhealth.ca.
