A nurse practitioner (NP) is an autonomous health-care provider with a master’s degree. NPs are regulated by the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).

NPs provide holistic and comprehensive health care across the lifespan. They assess, diagnose and manage diseases and disorders, prescribe medications, order and monitor diagnostic investigations, and refer, consult and collaborate with other health-care practitioners and specialists. In British Columbia, there are three streams of practice: family, adult and pediatrics.

Nurse practitioners in IH are supported by a robust leadership team. Interior Health was one of the first health authorities to bring NPs on as medical staff under the IH Regional NP Department, chaired by Dr. Louann Janicki. The Department Chair has transferred to Eddie Rozentul in 2024.
