The program is accessed through any of Interior Health’s emergency departments. A report does not need to be made to the police to access SAFE care.

When you arrive at the hospital emergency department, you will be assessed by the emergency department staff who will support a referral to the SAFE team. This may include an in-person examiner, a
teleSAFE consultant, or support with transfer to an alternate site to receive SAFE care.

A Sexual Assault Forensic Examination (SAFE) means that evidence may be collected, or information documented that may be used in a court case. Legal system involvement is not required for you to have
SAFE care.

A sexual assault may affect an individual’s physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual help. Additional resources can be found on the EVA BC Directory: https://endingviolence.org/services-directory/
