Lab tests & services
We offer lab services across the region, including:
- Blood, urine, stool and other sample collection
- Electrocardiogram (ECG) and Holter heart monitor testing at some locations

Book an appointment
You can book an appointment:
- Online
- By calling the Digital Health Support Desk at 1-844-870-4756: Monday-Friday 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Saturday-Sunday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Pacific)
- Remember to bring your BC Services Card with your Personal Health Number to your lab appointment.
- If you received a printed requisition from your physician, bring this with you to your appointment
- If you need a sample container, we recommend making an appointment to pick one up from the lab to minimize your wait time.
Sample collection instructions
Samples MUST be labelled with:
- Patient legal first and last name
- Date of birth
- Personal health number
- Collection time and date
You may need to fast before having a lab test. Your doctor or nurse practitioner will decide if fasting is required for you. If you are asked to fast for your test, follow these instructions:
- Fasting should occur for 8-12 hours before your test, unless otherwise indicated
- Do not eat or drink anything other than water
- Brushing your teeth and using mouthwash is acceptable, but not within 30 minutes of your test
Frequently asked questions about fasting
- Why do I need to fast?
- Some tests are affected by what you eat.
- Do I take my medications?
- Yes, unless your doctor has told you to stop.
- Can I take vitamins or supplements?
- Do not take vitamins or supplements 12 hours before your test, unless otherwise instructed by your care provider.
- Can I smoke?
- No, smoking can affect test results.
- Can I drink coffee or juice, or chew gum?
- No, you may only consume water.
Fasting is not required. Blood is collected one hour after glucose drink is given to the patient. You must remain at the lab for the duration of the test.
For three days before your test, eat regular meals with adequate carbohydrate intake. Fast eight hours before the test. You must remain at the lab for duration of the test.
You will need to know the date and time of your last dose of medication. Please follow your care provider’s instructions on when you should get your test.
Lab Results
Lab results can be accessed and viewed through MyHealthPortal - an online tool that provides you secure 24-hour access to your personal health information.
For interpretation of any lab result or any medical inquiries related to your lab result, contact your physician or practitioner directly.
You can also request a copy of your own lab results from your local Interior Health Records department.

- We encourage you to speak with the person who provided the service, or to the manager of the area. Try to resolve any issues at the time and place care is received.
- Submit patient care feedback to the IH Patient Care Quality Office directly for any problems that are unresolved.
